Most of the time I am an agreeable person. And I appear so even more of the time; maybe that’s the reason so many people think that they probably like me. I keep my objections to myself. Nobody really asks me about my likes and dislikes, and I don’t volunteer them, so people probably assume that I agree with them. After all, I am such an agreeable person.
This has its good and bad points. On the one hand, being alienated but not alienating, I retain a lot of good will which occasionally comes in handy. A savings account to be cashed in at a later date. On the other hand, there comes a time when agreeableness is no longer called for, when plain talk and strong truth are necessary. And it’s important to be ready to answer the call.
