I am the baby. I have two older brothers. One of my brothers is married and has an adult son. One of my brothers is married and has no children. I am single. Our father is living and is married to a woman who is not our mother, and they have no other children. Our mother is dead and was never married to anyone but our father.
Our mother had one brother, who married once and had six children, all of whom married and had children of their own. Our mother’s brother is dead, but his widow is living. The parents of our mother and her brother married shortly after the First World War, in which he served. Our grandmother was the youngest of twelve children of her father, who married twice. His first wife died after bearing six children, and he and his second wife died while our grandmother was still a young woman. Her older half-sister played the part of mother at the wedding, since our grandmother was an orphan. I know nothing for certain about our grandfather’s family; I believe he had a brother. I presume he had parents.
Our father has an older sister, who married once and had two daughters; and a younger brother, who married once and adopted a boy and a girl. Our father’s siblings are both living, but their spouses have died. Their father was one of six brothers, and their mother had a number of sisters. Our grandfather married again after the death of his wife, our grandmother. I have a picture of her holding a baby, and the picture was taken not long before she died.
